Time is Flying

Time is Flying

July 4th I moved to my second farm stay in Southern South Korea. On the outskirts of Gasuo is Dagam Farm, famous for its sweet persimmons and farm experience programs.

The weather is hotter and drier here in southern South Korea, but I am adapting to it quickly. Everyday the temperature has exceeded 90°F before noon, and we often work out in the sun. Thankfully, we work mornings and evenings, with rest time in the afternoons.

I am rooming with 2 Swedish women around my age, Telina (teh-lee-na) and Jonna (yoh-nuh). They both have been in Seoul since April, until they started on the farm a week before I arrived. They speak a little Korean, but mostly use English to communicate, so we have no problems talking to each other.

Everyone has been very kind here. Many who speak English have chatted with me, though I also enjoy talking with those who know very little English. While communication can be difficult at times,  it is becoming easier to piece together what is being said and finding a way to reply.

On Sunday, I participated in a woodworking project. There were 3 teams, each building something different. I helped my group build a flowerbox. In the evening, we played a traditional Korean game in which we used different methods to knock over wooden blocks. It was a lot of fun and I learned more about Korea as well as woodworking.

I will be staying at Dagam Farm until July 19, when I move to my 3rd farm stay. Time is flying by so fast, and I have kept very busy here. From gardening to exploring around the South Sea, there is always something going on around here.

I love reading about your experiences! South Korea was my host country. I milked my first cow on a dairy farm there, my 2nd host family.
