Transitioning Again

Transitioning Again

Well, the time has come again to say goodbye to my host family as I prepare to move to my 4th and final host family. I am excited to meet my final family, but also sad that they will be my final family. I have enjoyed each family I have stayed with in South Korea, and this 3rd family is no exception.

My 3rd host family has been more rambunctious than the others I have had, mostly due to my energetic host siblings. Chaewon and Jihoon have been a lot of fun to hang out with, though they have a lot more energy than I do. They taught me many board and card games while I was here and we all enjoyed those.

One of my favorite memories was with their pet lizard. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t think much about someone keeping a lizard for a pet. However, Chaewon loves her pet very much, and being a mischievious 10-year-old, she likes to find her amusement by trying to startle me.

There came a moment when I was distracted by something, only to feel cool, reptilian toes and scales on my arm. Thankfully, I like lizards, so it was not uncomfortable. I let Heung hang out on my arm, and he eventually climbed up to my shoulder. I think he was a bit upset at his beauty sleep being disrupted by the whims of his owner, so I felt bad for him and let him rest.

Chaewon found that much more interesting than she should have, because the scenario repeated several times. After about the 10th time Chaewon got bored and stopped.

I am sad to leave, but I am ready for the next leg of my journey. I leave for the train station soon and have a short trip to Chungju. Until then!
