The First Goodbye

The First Goodbye

Time is flying by fast! I am moving to my second host family today, so it is time to recap the last week. A lot has happened, some good, some sad, but I will value every minute of it and all that I learned.

My host family has been very kind and I enjoyed meeting them all. The grandma of my host family, sadly passed away early this week. I attended her funeral and met family members I had not yet met.

Since the family was busy, I spent more time with Ranjita. She showed me how to make cheese (very fun) and other products. I enjoyed learning how Dream Cattle Farm produces milk, cheese, yogurt, and milk tea, though I liked tasting it all even more!

Yesterday my family took Ranjita and I to a Red Ginseng farm, where I dug a plant up to take back to the farm. Red Ginseng is grown for medicine in South Korea and takes 6 years to mature enough to harvest.

Last evening, my host family and I went out for dinner at a lovely restaurant where we had Galbi, grilled meat and iced noodles. We grilled the meat over coals, which were set in a metal cage in the center of the table. Galbi is my new #1 favorite Korean food, officially knocking Bulgogi down to 2nd place.

I am sad to leave this family, which I have grown close to, but it is time to move on to my next adventure in Korea. While I am sad to say goodbye, I am also excited to meet my new family, who I will be staying with for over 2 weeks. I will make another blog post featuring the next family stay once I get settled in.

For now, I am thankful for the experiences I have had and that I have more ahead of me. Thank you to everyone who has kept me in your thoughts and prayers.

EDIT: due to limited wifi, my post is only just being published. I wrote this a couple days ago and have settled into my second farm stay. I will put up another post soon about it.
