Work and play
Ranjita and I at the DMZ.

Time is flying by so far, and I am enjoying every minute of it! Yesterday my host mother, Jin, Ranjita, and I drove to Paju to visit the DMZ. I had a blast. We rode the Peace Gondola over the river, then took a tour bus over the Unification Bridge and toured the 3rd tunnel (very cool) and the Dorasan observatory (from which we could view North Korea).

We ended the day with another large meal at a Chinese restaurant. We had gapjangbap and jajangmyeong noodles which were extremely delicious.

Today is Monday, which meant the usual work started up again on the farm. Ranjita and I started work at 5:30 A.M. to start the process of preparing milk and milk tea for the market. I helped bottle up milk tea and cool it down. Dream Cattle Farm makes 2 kinds of milk tea: Assam and Earl Grey. I can honestly say both are very delicious, but my favorite is assam.

After morning shift was over, we went to town on some errands. While in town we stopped at the Local Foods market where the farm products are sold. My host mother showed me their cheese, yogurt and milk on the shelf. All of their milk tea was sold out; it is very popular in the area.

I should point out that before I came to Korea, they were in their dry season and in desperate need of rain. The day I came was the start of their rainy season. The humidity levels here average about 90% each day. My host mother says that the typhoon season is coming soon. I am glad for my umbrella!
