Host family 1: Gimpo, South Korea

Today I met my first host family. They own Dream Cattle Farm which is a dairy farm of about 40 milk cows. You can see more info on their website: http://xn--cw0b99r6ok.kr/

My family is very sweet. My host parents do not speak much English, but my host Sister, Jin and my Nepali roommate, Ranjita speak enough English for us to understand each other. They are also very helpful as I try to learn Korean. I am very thankful for such a lovely host family.

Today I got settled in, then Jin, Ranjita, and I went to the market for food. After that we stopped for dinner and ate Tak-gal-bi. The picture above shows me at the table with the Tak-gal-bi on the grill. Tak-gal-bi is a korean dish of chicken (tak), sticky rice, sweet potatoes, cabbage, and sesame leaves in spicy sauce. It was very delicious when eaten with lettuce and rice.

Tomorrow I will be given chores and will start with cleaning pens. The farm not only produces their own milk, but also makes cheese and yogurt, which I hope to learn the process of eventually. I do not know exactly what to expect in The next 11 days, but the unknown is half the fun and means that I have a lot to learn.

Stay tuned for more of my adventures in South Korea!
